After arriving in Texas' wide prairies eight years ago, California native Karyna Micaela, who earned her bachelor’s degree in jazz studies, inherited the rich troubadour spirit that is tradition in this part of the country, transforming her into a more vibrant storyteller. The result is a blend of pop, jazz and soul that reflects an emotional journey to which listeners can intimately relate.

Wandering the lonely streets of Madrid. Moving halfway across the country to a town she’s never visited. Singing her songs to strangers in a coffee shop. Falling in love for the first time. Surviving a broken heart. Karyna Micaela has a lifetime of stories to tell, and an intoxicating way of telling them.

Once a teenager with a dreamy case of wanderlust, Karyna spent hours alone in her room, savoring the rich vocal sounds of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, teaching herself French and Italian and planning far off adventures abroad. She went on to study classical music at the state university in her hometown of San Jose, California, only to discover she felt most at home behind a microphone, interpreting her beloved standards from the Great American songbook, and ended up with a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies.

Long story short, Karyna learned that life doesn’t turn out the way you expect. With each day comes new, unexpected surprises, and life can turn upside down in an instant. And if you let it, it can turn out better than you ever dreamed. Karyna released her debut EP, Everyday Surprises in 2013, and is currently working on her first, full-length album, which tells of stories of falling head over heels in love, mending the pieces of a broken heart, and all the unexpected twists and turns in between.

To date, Karyna has toured nationally in support of her EP, and has played with her band at House of Blues Dallas, The Prophet Bar, Club Dada, Deep Ellum Arts Festival and Addison Summer Series, and has shared stages with Ernie Halter, Luke Wade, Kaela Sinclair, Paul Slavens, Alanna Royale and Kirk Thurmond & The Millennials. She has also appeared at the Granada Theater, Kessler Theater and on Good Day Fox 4 as a backup singer for Nicholas Altobelli.
