Karyna Micaela's journey in music and in life has always been about discovery. It has never been about having all the answers. To know her music is to know that life rarely turns out the way you expect it to. Karyna writes about the beauty of not knowing, the pain of disappointment, and the joy of discovering an even more exciting adventure than the one you originally set out for.
Karyna's passion for music started early on, and she meddled in everything from producing her own radio show on cassette tape, complete with original songs and commercial jingles, to starring in school musicals. As a teenager she would spend hours in her room, studying the Great American Songbook - her teachers, classic recordings of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Tormé and Judy Garland.
She spent the first half of college as a classical voice major, before realizing that jazz was her true love, so she finished her degree in jazz studies. She was asked to sing "Our Love is Here to Stay," as an opener for Dana Carvey at San Jose State University's Homecoming Gala, which sparked a career as a professional vocalist, singing at weddings and doing regular stints at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose and the prestigious Top of the Mark in San Francisco. Her audiences have included NFL Wide Receiver Jerry Rice and Norman Mineta (American politician and namesake of the San Jose International Airport).
She dropped everything to fulfill her longtime dream of living abroad, and spent three months living in Madrid, after which she returned home to teach music full-time in public schools, all the while still moonlighting as a cover band front woman. Through all this, Karyna was secretly penning original songs. It took a move halfway across the country to a town she'd never visited for her to start booking solo shows in local venues, trying out her material for live audiences. In Denton, Texas, she quickly garnered a local following and met local musician and producer, Zach Balch, who would eventually produce her debut EP, Everyday Surprises.
Karyna is currently working on her first, full-length album full of stories of falling head over heels in love, mending the pieces of a broken heart, and all the unexpected twists and turns in between. She serves as the Vice President, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Dallas-based label, Flint Creek Records.
To date, Karyna has toured nationally in support of her EP, and has played with her band at House of Blues Dallas, The Prophet Bar, Deep Ellum Arts Festival and Addison Summer Series, and has shared stages with Alanna Royale, Kirk Thurmond & The Millennials, Ernie Halter and Luke Wade.

DEEP ELLUM ARTS FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE
APRIL 4, 2015:
"Her style of pop music had more of a refined quality to it. Very easy to listen to ... She’s got a powerful yet delicate voice, with the music really helping accent that."
